Each registered domain has at least two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a certain hosting company. In this way, you have both your site and your e-mails managed by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The former shows which server deals with the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, whenever you type a domain name in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be sent to the servers of another service provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means you could have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting from us, you will be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. As long as a particular Internet domain has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify particular records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to any other service provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will even allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you decide to use the e-mail services of a different company and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do this with just a couple of clicks through the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case that you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records apart from the two default ones.
